Get Frocked: 1920’s Flapper Dress
Whenever most of us think of women of the ‘Roaring Twenties’, we picture the image of a flapper. But here’s a surprise – flappers didn’t emerge until 1926!
Flapper fashion, called “garconne” by the French because of its boyish look, embraced all things modern. Short, sleek hair, a shorter than usual shapeless shift dress, and a chest as flat as a board became the desired silhouette of the flapper. This look that was all the rage went along with a certain lifestyle: Women applied their makeup in public, smoked with long cigarette holders, and in the spirit of reckless rebels, enjoyed dancing the night away in jazz clubs.
Although this new fashion was easily attainable by all (it was much simpler to construct by home dressmakers than previous fashions had been), it was a bit difficult for the older, former matrons of Edwardian society whose rounded figures and style of dressing had become passe.
Skirts dropped to their shortest in 1926, revealing the whole leg as far as the kneecap. In 1928, they began to lengthen again, reaching below the knee by 1930.

Vivviann Green Flapper Dress
I wanted to recreate this look, so I set off on a shopping spree and found some lovely flapper dresses at one of my favorite stores, Ivalde.

Perfect for a Night at a Jazz Club like The Vault
The Vivviann Green Flapper Dress, an elegant outfit, is perfect for a night out at a vintage jazz club like the Vault. The dress, made in a delicate shade of grass green, comes with glitch pants, a belt, a feathered headband, and a shirt and skirt adorned with sequins.
The dress also comes in sky blue, beige, and purple — a nice choice of colors.

A Feathered Headband Adds to the Look
Typically flappers wore a long string of pearls around their necks; I chose to compliment my outfit with an antique pair of sparkly earrings and necklace instead to match the shimmering sequins on the dress.
