Get Frocked: 1950’s Chiffon Evening Dress
Wunderlich’s 1950’s Chiffon Evening Dress
By Eowyn Atlass
Being able to purchase a beautiful vintage 1950’s evening gown in SecondLife™ is not out of reach for most of us. Real couture designer eveningwear, however, was far too expensive for most women during the 1950’s. Luckily for them, it wasn’t long before fabulous new fashion concepts trickled down from French salons to department stores around the world. Soon women everywhere were wearing gowns that captured elements of famous European designer names such as Christobal Balenciaga, Coco Chanel, and Nina Ricci.
Recently, while on one of my frequent SecondLife™ shopping trips, I visited Wunderlich’s Historical Garb on the ZoHa Islands. This shop features wonderful fashion from many eras, including some lovely 1950’s gowns. That’s where I came across the stunning Ombre Dyed Two-Color Chiffon Dress. The style reminded me of a 1958 pink net tulle bouffant style party gown I’d seen and loved in a fifties vintage fashion collection.
Chiffon is one of my favorite fabrics for eveningwear as it drapes so beautifully. This strapless gown, designed by Naergilien Wunderlich, comes in seven color combinations. I chose lilac-sky; it is also available in pink-green, brown-lavender, blue-green, green-peach, plum-sky, and lavender-mint.

When you purchase the gown you’ll receive a shirt with a fitted waist, underpants which serve as glitch pants, a skirt to be worn in high lag areas, and a prim skirt that drapes from the pelvis to the floor in a lovely watercolor blend of color. You’ll also get a dainty pair of matching slippers.

Designer Naergilien Wunderlich has been working with 3D texturing in various applications for the last ten years. Her skills are evident in this lovely dress.
